Grand Canyon Santa

This piece was done for a wonderful lady who gets to live at the Grand Canyon. She makes and loves quilts and has yearly hiked the canyon with several of the hikes being "rim to rim". Bright Angel Trail  was chosen as the center piece for the Santa, with the Devil's Corkscrew (a series of switchbacks, that are very difficult) highlighted.  Along side the front panels are a section of a favorite quilt.
Santa is holding is a ring tailed cat, a nocturnal animal found in the Grand Canyon.

The back of the Santa shows the canyon and the original Kolb Brother's Studio, This is the spot, on the very edge of the canyon, where the Kolb brothers took photos of  people heading down Bright Angel Trail on mules.
The Condor has the center due to their reintroduction and flourishing in the canyon. No trip there is complete without seeing one fly over, and once again the quilt piece is used to decorate the cape.
